Wish I had a camera....

Today was a perfect example of what a spring day should be and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Allie headed off to a little resort town to spend a few days with a friend. The rest of us, even "Peanut", got busy in the backyard.

This year we're planting another garden from the "Roots, Shoots, Buckets, and Boots" book: The "Moon" garden. It has (will have) a tepee of sorts made from bamboo poles grown over with moonflowers, with a surrounding border of white plants which are supposed to show up nicely at nighttime. This will be Kievan's garden, although like our other gardening projects, I'm sure we'll all be happily involved with it.

Chloe is continuing again this year with her square-foot garden. We are amazed that her Lambs Ears not only stayed alive through the winter, but they are flourishing and are getting very crowded in their "square". We'll have plenty to divide and spread to other gardens. Her strawberries came back too!

Not much is growing in my garden right now, but I expect that a lot of the flowers from last year left seeds which will eventually spring up. If they don't, I'll have to put a in few annuals to keep it from looking bare.

The hydrangeas we planted last spring are coming back. Little leaves are sprouting from the sides of the bony sticks. Brad and I were both under the impression that hydrangeas were supposed to be cut back to the ground. The "sticks" we thought we were supposed to cut down are now sprouting leaves, but they had seemed totally dead. We're relieved that neither of us got around to cutting them down.

The raspberry bush is rapidly sprouting leaves as well.

But... no pictures. Why? Well, the camera wasn't stolen this time (we've had three cameras stolen). Instead, my wonderful son who helpfully keeps the camera's battery charged for me accidentally dropped it on the hard tile floor. The focusing lens is now jammed so the pictures won't focus. :-( But, I am thankful for such a hardworking and helpful little boy! He's the greatest! I guess I'll just have to learn how to use the phone's camera. We'll see....(I still don't even know how to get the voice mail off of it...)
